Working for a company that encourages a good work/life balance is an empowering and rewarding career choice.

Prime employers for women understand and value the importance of families, with many offering progressive policies covering flexible working, work-from-home, caregiving, parental, maternal, and adoption leave.

International Day of Families is a day of celebration

The United Nations (UN) began focusing on issues relating to families in 1980. In 1983, the UN requested that the Secretary-General enhance awareness among decision makers and the public of the problems and needs of the family, as well as addressing effective ways of meeting those needs. Marked each May 15th, International Day of Families was established by the UN in 1993 following establishment of an International Year of Families, and highlights the importance of families as critical units of society.

International Day of Families provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase the knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.

The UN organizes and promotes a variety of activities, workshops, newspaper articles and television programming. Schools, educational establishments, industry, governments, community groups, charities, and the media  are encouraged to get involved and observe the day.

Family policies help meet Sustainable Development Goals

According to the UN, “Family policies are a mainstay of national public policies, and the most meaningful vehicle for governments to influence the living standards of upcoming generations. As part of achieving the global ambitions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), family policies play an important part in meeting targets across many of the goals.”
