Each year National Engineers Week is celebrated in the United States. Of particular interest is the fact it also encompasses George Washington's birthday on February 22. The week is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies as well as by more than 50 corporations and government agencies.

Dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce, Engineers Week focuses on the contributions to society that engineers make. It also provides an important time to highlight to the next generation, the great importance for learning mathematics, science and technical skills. Each year, Engineers Week reaches thousands of schools, businesses and community groups right across the United States.

Promoting a public dialogue about the need for more engineers is crucial and thankfully there is increasing demand for engineering professionals, and this makes Engineers Week so important. However, it is also a time for celebrating the impressive work of professionals in the engineering industry, and the Week also sees the prestigious Federal Engineer of the Year Award announced.
