“No two days are the same, and I am learning new things every single day,” says Natasha Murphy, a Manufacturing Technician in the Termination department at Siemens Healthineers.

“I absolutely love it,” she says. Inspiring words following just six months at Siemens Magnet Technology.

As part of her role, Natasha was put on a training plan from day one, which her team and Lead Technician help and push her to achieve.

“Due to being the only woman on my team across all shifts in my department, I was initially nervous to join,” explains Natasha. However, her fears soon subsided: “As I walked through the door on the first day, all my nerves dissolved. I have always felt included, and I have been treated equally to everybody else. I have never felt a burden or like I am asking too many questions.”

A welcoming environment

Natasha’s colleagues have been an amazing help, and made her feel incredibly welcome. “Nothing is ever too much trouble, which is lovely to be part of,” shares Natasha.

“Everybody has been so helpful with my training, and in day-to-day tasks with tips on how to do parts of the process more efficiently. Every person I work with is always knowledgeable and happy to help with any questions I have or assistance I need.”

A typical workday for Natasha will see the magnet arriving at Termination with the coils wound, with Natasha wiring out the Start and Ends of each coil, fit switches, PCB boards, current leads and many more parts to the internals of the magnet.

“The wires will then be stripped back to the filament, which is what makes the magnet superconducting. With the processes up to and over 24 hours long, every day is different, which is fantastic because I can learn new parts of the process and I find it interesting to master these new challenges,” she explains.

Exciting career progression

Natasha finds working for Siemens Healthineers extremely motivating and is so proud of the work that she does.

“It’s easy to be motivated because seeing the end product and how it is helping and transforming the lives of so many people all across the globe is touching,” she says. “We have targets to hit every week and it is great to push above and beyond these and feel successful.”

Looking forward, Natasha would love to see her career progress further, up the ranks to Tech 2 and Tech 1, and onwards to become a Lead Technician.

“I feel as though this is achievable in the next five years as there is a clear path to follow to get to the Lead Tech role, and I know that my colleagues will support me in achieving my goals,” explains Natasha.

If any women feel nervous to apply for a role in a male-dominated workplace or think that maybe they might not look the part – ignore these feelings and apply! I absolutely love my role here at Siemens and it is easy to fit in so well.”
