At Siemens Healthineers, employees work to develop cutting-edge medical technologies that make a lasting impact on the quality of a patient's life. In particular, Siemens Healthineers technology is improving breast cancer detection and treatment - providing breast care solutions at every step of the Breast Health Journey, from discovery to recovery.

Spreading awareness about breast cancer detection

A commitment to discovery and recovery was reinforced by Siemens Healthineers during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which focuses on spreading awareness and access to resources supporting people living with cancer. During the awareness month, Siemens Healthineers explained how screening can help detect the disease early, while introducing a new diagnostic approach.

"Reduce the maybes, increase the hope. When it comes to breast cancer, detection through screening is still the key to recovery. Keep getting checked on top of your agenda. While early detection is the key to recovery, a new diagnostic approach could give hope to women with dense tissue or irregularities in their preliminary exam," explains Siemens Healthineers.

Whether due to fear of the result, reservations about what the unfamiliar examination might feel like, or simply due to procrastination, many women don’t make use of the early detection screenings available. This is problematic because time is the most important factor when it comes to early detection.

Siemens Healthineers knows that detection remains the most important factor to improve the prognosis after a cancer diagnosis. By investing a short amount of time for a quick exam, patients can increase the likelihood of continuing life as usual.

Employee Linda Gallant understands first-hand why breast cancer prevention is critical, and why it is so important to find an individual path in cancer treatment.

Linda found two lumps after a self-exam in 2020, only around a few months after one of the regular check-ups. Linda has been in healthcare all of her professional life and took her cancer on like a personal project. Naming the tumors (Midge and Beth) helped Linda to address her emotions directly to them, and helped her deal with the emotional rollercoaster that comes with a cancer diagnosis.

"I would tell anybody, don't put off self-exam, no matter how old you are. It's something so miniscule to do once a month," explains Linda.

"Optimal outcomes for breast cancer depend on a timely diagnosis followed by an organized, multidisciplinary approach to individual treatment," explains Siemens Healthineers. "Following the first pioneers on the field of breast cancer, Siemens Healthineers has remained committed to fighting this disease."

This arena is certainly an incredibly fascinating and critical area to work within at Siemens Helathineers.
