Working towards an inclusive society
The Deaflympics is an international Olympics for Deaf people. The international multi-sport event for deaf athletes is held every four years, organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). The first Deaflympics was held in in 1924 in Paris, France. The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics was the 100th anniversary commemorative Games, and was held for the first time in Japan.
The Games are characterized by visual information and communication access utilizing starting light and flags as well as International Sign.
"We hope the Deaflympics will help society to better understand deafness, sign language, and deaf sports. We also aim for an inclusive society where diverse people respect and support each other, regardless of disability, gender, or nationality," said Mitsuji Hisamatsu, Chairperson of Organizing Committee of 2025 Summer Deaflympics.
