Colt Technology Services sees many talented women working for the company, with some providing expert commentary to media.

Digital platform CIO featured an insightful interview with Laura Farina, Executive Vice President (EVP) of Enterprise at Colt, about why infrastructure simplification has become a business priority, particularly as organisations look to scale AI initiatives.

Alongside Colt's Chief Strategy Officer, Avijit Singh, Laura discussed why infrastructure has become a boardroom issue, what’s driving the growing gap between ambition and reality, and how leading organisations are building the foundations to move with greater speed, clarity and control.

"Over the years, I've seen infrastructure complexity become one of the biggest barriers to business agility. Most organisations don't struggle because they lack ambition. They struggle because their technology environment has become too complex. The consequences go far beyond IT: Slower decision-making; Higher operating costs; Increased security and operational risk; Difficulty scaling AI initiatives," said Laura, sharing her interview on LinkedIn.

"As AI moves from experimentation to deployment, infrastructure is becoming a boardroom discussion, not just a technology one. In my conversations with customers, a common theme emerges: simplification is no longer about efficiency alone. It's about creating the foundation for innovation and growth," added Laura.

Discussing the changing role of infrastructure

In her CIO interview, Laura explained how the changing role of infrastructure is central to understanding how businesses can keep pace with new demands. She reflected on how significantly the technology landscape has changed and, with it, the role infrastructure plays in supporting the business.

“It's really quite fascinating to see how the technology has also evolved and also how the infrastructure is today playing a much different role, a much more strategic role for the businesses that we're working with,” explained Laura.

“Innovation is not limited by ideas or by the lack of ideas. I believe that innovation is often limited by the infrastructure's ability to support those ideas at scale,” said Laura. “The organisations that are where we are seeing success, that are making progress, are the ones that are simplifying where it matters most. They are the ones that are looking at the infrastructure and ensuring that the infrastructure evolves alongside with the business ambitions that they have. So in the end, infrastructure should really be an enabler for growth and for innovation, not a constraint."
