Colt Technology Services marked Ada Lovelace Day by highlighting impressive achievements of women in technology, and encouraging girls and women to pursue a career in the STEM fields.
"They just don't see many role models in the industry; it's a very underrepresented sector. If I can help make the industry more appealing to young women and less terrifying, I will" said Colt Project Manager, Victoria Chapman.
Women can challenge how things are traditionally done
Colt's Group Financial Controller, Azmina Airi, commented: "We need more role models to come through the ranks to give industries a wider perspective. The female population will have had different experiences to their male counterparts, and with that comes fresh ideas. The can challenge the way things are traditionally done, drawing on those very different experiences - in turn bringing new solutions to the table."
A Unix Engineer for Colt, Martina Donova, said: "All the mentors I've had in my career - both men and women - have inspired me to 'pay it forward' and offer others the knowledge I've learned that has contributed positively to my career. My grandfather always supported me and encouraged me to pursue what I wanted to do, regardless of my gender."
Increasing the profile of women in STEM
Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in STEM. The day aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, helps create new role models to encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in STEM.
