Colt Technology Services, the digital infrastructure company, has joined forces with environmentalists and educators, The Arctic Arts Project, to help combat climate change.
This three-year partnership aligns with Colt's ongoing mission to create awareness, drive and inspire action, and build a sustainable tech industry.
Driving action in addressing climate change
The partnership, which sees Colt as ‘Polar Partner’, supports Colt’s commitment to drive action in addressing climate change through collaboration, awareness, education and trust.
Founded by environmental photographer and campaigner, Kerry Koepping, The Arctic Arts Project is comprised of passionate and committed scientists, photographers and filmmakers, with the collective goal of capturing and sharing the impact of climate change and the actions needed.
A sustainable by design tech industry
Joining forces to affect change, Colt and The Arctic Arts Project will bring inspiring and insightful programmes and initiatives to Colt’s employees, customers and partners through sharing Colt’s commitment to a sustainable by design tech industry, and The Arctic Arts Project’s captivating content and deep knowledge of the reality of climate change.
Colt has already supported an Arctic Arts Project expedition to Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic, where Arctic Arts continues its work on a ground-breaking documentary film.
The collaboration comes as the IT industry is under immediate pressure to reduce emissions while providing vast amounts of compute, in part fuelled by AI and training large language models.
Partnering with The Arctic Arts Project
“The World Economic Forum has stated in its 2024 global risk report that within the next ten years, four of the top five risks facing the world will be climate-related , so discovering and sharing the truth around the real threat of climate change is critical. The Arctic Arts Project tracks this change first-hand from areas like Svalbard – a tiny archipelago North of Norway which is warming seven times faster than the rest of the Earth – and shares this profound knowledge with stunning, hard-hitting and incredibly powerful visual storytelling," says Colt Technology Services, Chief Executive Officer, Keri Gilder. “Partnering with this amazing organisation gives us the opportunity to discover and understand much more about the difference we can make as individuals; the influence we have as a global technology business; and the opportunity we have as an industry. There has never been a greater need for the industry to come together to drive positive change, and at Colt, we’re determined to be part of the solution”.
Communicating climate change through visual literacy
“Climate Chaos is the biggest environmental threat humanity has ever faced. And nowhere on the planet is more endangered than the Arctic. By communicating the science of climate change through visual literacy The Arctic Arts Project and its Partners can span global cultural nuances and communicate hope and inspire action through the love of nature,” shares The Arctic Arts Project, Executive Director, Kerry Koepping. “The Arctic Arts Project uses imagery, videos and stories to convey a passion for this precious landscape and the life it supports. Every day we are confronted with more facts that heighten our concern and sound the alarm to act. There is hope but we must act now. Climate Change is relevant to us all. With a sense of urgent optimism, we need to make it personal."
Committed to tackling the climate crisis
Since rolling out its ‘Sustainability by Design’ strategy in 2019, Colt has continued to step up its contribution to tackling the climate crisis by identifying, and delivering against, ambitious science-based targets. By 2045, Colt hopes to achieve net zero emissions while rallying the industry to take effective action. Colt sets out its targets and latest progress in its third Sustainability Report.
