Congratulations to AECOM’s Charlotte Jones who picked up Apprentice of the Year and the prestigious Diamond Award at this year’s Consultancy and Engineering Awards organised by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE).
True inspiration for further women apprentices
Apprentice Charlotte, who is based in the Transportation team in Birmingham, said she was shocked and didn’t expect to win the Apprentice of the Year award. However the judges saw differently, commenting: "Charlotte is a classic example of the benefits of apprenticeships in the construction sector. She is very personable, modest and humble. She is a real inspiration. We need more Charlottes."
Passionate about the engineering sector
Charlotte then went on to win the Diamond Award which celebrates the best of the best on the night for the fantastic work she is doing as a STEM ambassador. “I’m passionate when I talk about my work and enjoy speaking to kids in schools about apprenticeships, getting them to consider this as a route in to engineering,” said Charlotte. “I don’t have A-Levels and I think that shows younger people that the stereotype around Engineering isn’t true – you don’t need to be overly academic to get far in the industry, just need to be passionate and good at what you do."
The importance of great encouragement
Commenting on the importance of leaders shaping her personal development Charlotte concluded: “My mentor and line manager Jodie Robins has been amazing throughout, she encouraged me to enter and helped me with my application for the awards. She was there on the night and was extremely proud that I won which was really nice to see."
