Roshni Wijesekera is a Fire Engineer at AECOM whose mission is to keep people safe. Below, Roshni explains why she loves her career in engineering and shares her top tips about how aspiring engineers can follow in her footsteps.

Keeping people safe

Roshni has highlighted her important role as a Fire Engineer as well as stating what her favourite project has been in her career to date.

"As a Fire Engineer, my job is to design buildings so that in the event of a fire people can get out safely. We also make provisions for the fire brigade so they are able to fight a fire safely and effectively," says Roshini.

"One of my favourite projects to have worked on is on Waterloo Station. I'm proud to know that I played a part in ensuring that thousands of passengers that use the station will be safe in the event of a fire."

A rewarding career

Roshni's work makes a positive difference to society - and she wants young people to have the confidence and courage to explore engineering pathways that lead to a similarly rewarding career.

"There are so many different types of engineering and so many different roles within each engineering discipline," explains Roshni. 

"I encourage every young person out there to talk to engineers, try out work experience to find out all you can about it and I'm sure you'll find a role that is as rewarding as mine."
