Catrin Roberts is a Graduate Waste Management and Environmental Consultant at AECOM. A happy, positive and enthusiastic employee, Catrin is really enjoying her role with AECOM and finds them to be an exceptional employer.

A strong work ethic

Catrin has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Microbiology from the University of Liverpool, and a Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Technology from Imperial College in London. Prior to working at AECOM, Catrin had no previous professional work experience as she came to the company straight from university. She had however worked part-time in her local town since she was 13, which proved her strong work commitment, and she'd also undertaken quite a bit of environmentally related voluntary work.

High profile projects

"I enjoy the variety of projects that I get to work on at AECOM," says Catrin. "I especially enjoy working in London because some of the projects I work on are very high profile and this is very exciting. I love the team that I work in. Everyone is very friendly and happy so I really enjoy coming into work every day."

Catrin specialises in waste and resource management, and on a day to day basis she's the author of Operational Waste Management Strategies, Waste Technical Guidance Notes and Waste and Recycling Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters. She attends client/design team meetings in order to guide the design of the development in-line with national, regional and local waste management policies.

Since starting with AECOM in 2014, Catrin has helped develop AECOM's Electronic Interference team. "I lead on many of the site surveys and I'm one of the lead authors on reports and proposals," explains Catrin. "I've also delved into the world of project management, and I'm currently assisting in project managing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a large site in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets."

Proud of great achievements

"Since 2015 (the first year we started undertaking electronic interference assessments) we've driven the importance of assessing electronic interference. In doing so, our total income from this work increased by 160% since 2015. This has been a big achievement that I'm very proud of, and I hope to continue this trend."

Catrin finds her employer, AECOM, to be very fair when it comes to being an equal opportunities employer. "It's really enjoyable to work with people from different walks of life and from different parts of the world. As a graduate, AECOM offers a very good graduate scheme whereby two-day residential modules are attended throughout the two year programme (usually around once every six months). This is great as it's lovely to meet and socialise with diverse graduates from other offices around the UK," says Catrin.
