A company's focus on sustainability can be an important factor for candidates comparing employers.
Firmly committed to sustainability, AECOM has shared its first global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report following participation in COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. The report explains how AECOM's people and company are taking action to deliver a better world for communities and clients globally.
"This report also formalizes our promise to regularly communicate our ESG actions and the progress we are making against our commitments and strategy," says AECOM CEO Troy Rudd in the report's introduction.
Pledging to advance sustainability and ESG initiatives
The AECOM report outlines the company's Sustainable Legacies strategy that sees AECOM pledge to advance sustainability and ESG initiatives within its operations and in partnership with its clients. Sustainable Legacies is AECOM's strategy for reaching ambitious ESG objectives. The strategy integrates a number of key pillars that will embed sustainable development and resilience across the company’s work, improve social outcomes for communities, achieve net-zero carbon emissions, and enhance governance.
AECOM is committed to publicly reporting on ESG pillars as it works to enhance performance in the most responsible manner possible. AECOM's strategic approach of Sustainable Legacies not only helps the company manage and measure its progress, but also helps it to engage with key stakeholders from around the world.
AECOM President Lara Poloni discusses ESG leadership
The report features an interview with AECOM President Lara Poloni who talks about the timeliness of AECOM's Sustainable Legacies strategy, the outcomes the company hopes to achieve, and the impacts operationally. She addresses key questions including: Why is ESG increasingly in focus AECOM and its clients; What are the outcomes you hope to see with the Sustainable Legacies strategy?; and Why is evaluating ESG risk part of AECOM's process?
"Our Sustainable Legacies strategy highlights our ESG leadership. It also shows our own company commitment to lead by example. We have some bold aspirations in terms of our net-zero carbon emissions and advancing other initiatives aligned with our ESG agenda," explains Lara. "Delivering a better world is central to our purpose as a company. It absolutely guides how we think and execute."
Promoting diversity of ideas and perspectives
Recognising that promoting diversity in ideas and perspectives makes AECOM a better, more innovative company, the report reaffirms AECOM's commitment to extending a culture of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) throughout its global enterprise.
From creating a reverse mentoring program pairing junior professionals with its executive leadership team to expanding employee resource groups, AECOM continues to ensure the company remains a place where talent thrives, while delivering superior business results and enriching communities.
