Wellness is an essential component of workplace performance and is being recognized more as a guiding principle of design excellence. If certain aspects of well-being are out of balance, they can wreak havoc on our day-to-day work experience. But what does “wellness in the workplace” look like when we split our workdays between offices, homes and just about everywhere in between?

AECOM workplace strategists Natalie Minott Kollig and Amrita Mookerjee share six dimensions where organizations and employees can improve wellbeing - as they reinvent the wellness wheel for the future of work.

They address key dimensions for wellbeing:

  • Physiological
  • Material
  • Mental and Emotional
  • Intellectual
  • Social
  • Spiritual

AECOM suggests that in organizations, employees can likely tie at least one less-than-desired professional experience to an aspect of wellness being out of alignment, in turn amplifying a negative response. Some dimensions can be impacted quickly and easily, and all should be measured and monitored on an ongoing basis to develop a long-term workplace strategy that encompasses the home, the office and even third spaces.
