Cybersecurity is ever-evolving, especially as threats against industrial control systems and operational technology environments are becoming more potent and frequent.

Ever wondered what it's like to work in cybersecurity?

Meet Vrushali Asar, a cybersecurity architect and engineer working at Honeywell.

Vrushali shares what she does in her work and how others can pursue a similar career path

Working in an important field

As a cybersecurity architect and engineer, Vrushali deals with informational technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) cybersecurity. Operational technology consists of the management of a plant, factory or other industrial facilities.

"OT cyberattacks are more fatal and emergency-demanded than IT incidents, and that's what drives me in working in this department," explains Vrushali.

Sharing career advice

When asked for advice for someone wanting to pursue a cybersecurity career, Vrushali says: "Expect to learn a lot. Just as a doctor is familiar with the existing viruses and diseases, something new can always come up. It’s the same with cybersecurity, so if you enjoy the scope of surprise and are excited about solving problems, this is a great industry for you."

In preparation for a cybersecurity career, Vrushali recommends building up experience in a broad technology field, such as software engineering, and then tailoring expertise to cybersecurity by pursuing related certifications.
