Capgemini is an inclusive employer that offers an equitable workplace for all.
Capgemini India Analyst - Europe EU, Dr. Urvi Jangam, marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities through encouraging others to look past their limitations and strive to get the future they want.
"My disability is an opportunity for me and has never been a hindrance," said Urvi. "There have been highs and lows, but it is the driving force that has brought me to where I am today."
Overcoming countless hurdles
As India’s first blind woman with a Ph.D. in German studies, venturing into this field was a huge challenge for Urvi.
"By the time I completed my Master's and Ph.D. research, I had to devise techniques to overcome countless hurdles. My love and passion for the German language and literature motivated me to go on and be innovative," said Urvi.
Urvi developed the concept of Adrishya Rasa (nonvisual aesthetic pleasure), conceptualizing aesthetic perception with four senses, coupled with the enriching power of imagination and empathy.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, I co-founded the Aesthesis Foundation For Visually Impaired, an NGO that provides vocational training based on optimum utilization of four senses," said Urvi.
Receiving unwavering support
"Capgemini was where my next major career transition in 2022 took me. My colleagues strived hard to make my orientation phase an inclusive experience. I am grateful to have found a mentor in this critical stage. I would like to emphasize the empathy and unwavering support I've received from the team at every step. I look forward to overcoming many more challenges, making my way, and eventually finding my niche in the IT industry."
