"Why do we have to wait for large companies to have a sustainability goal? Why don't we, as end users, ask for the change?" says Honeywell General Manager Aparajita Kapoor who works within the company's fluorine products business, where she helps accelerate the adoption of low global-warming-potential technology.
Aparajita is a Futureshaper, driven by the mission of making the world smarter, safer and more sustainable. Her role is driving the adoption of Honeywell Solstice.
Making progress on sustainability
The low global-warming-potential technology Honeywell Solstice touches daily life, from keeping a car cool in the summer to regulating a home's temperature via foam insulation more efficiently.
The use of Honeywell Solstice has helped avoid the potential release of the equivalent of more than 326 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, comparable to the CO2 sequestered by 389 million acres of US forests for one year*. It's one example of a technology designed to help organizations and communities make progress on their sustainability journey.
"Our team's mission is to really get our Honeywell Solstice refrigerant technology out there, adopted industry-wide, and work toward the greener cleaner environment," says Aparajita.
Planning for the future
"When doing general management, you've got to have an understanding of your product portfolio and the technical aspect of that, because you have to be thinking about not only what you are selling today, but also what's the roadmap for the future," shares Aparajita.
Aparajita works very closely with the sales team, commercial teams and customers to bring to market low global-warming-potential materials that power cooling systems in buildings and other applications, like insulation for homes.
Learning and understanding different aspects of product technology, regulations, supply chain, sales, marketing, finance and strategy has always kept things interesting and challenging for Aparajita.
Valuing natural resources
"Unfortunately, in India, there are still a lot of places that do not have access to portable drinking water all the time, and you do not have access to electricity. Growing up, all of these things really shaped me and helped me value resources like that a lot more," says Aparajita.
The use of the Honeywell Solstice refrigerant technology has enabled a reduction...of carbon dioxide that has been released into the atmosphere," explains Aparajita. "These are low GWP refrigerants that essentially help reduce carbon footprints.
What being a Futureshaper means to Aparajita
"If you can't change your circumstances, then change your perspective. If you have the vision, drive and ambition to want to change things around you, then you're a Futureshaper," comments Aparajita.
Aparajita specialized in computer science when she undertook her engineering degree and has always enjoyed writing algorithms and cracking code.
"Even though I changed tracks and went into business management, solving problems of any nature is truly what I enjoy and thrive on," says Aparajita.
