Working with an employer with a strong community focus can make for a highly rewarding career.
WTW, in partnership with Urban Synergy Mentoring, has launched the second year of DreamBig@WTW, a program aimed at empowering young people from marginalized communities in the UK.
"Together, we're building a brighter future. Join us in celebrating and supporting the DreamBig@WTW program!," said WTW.
Supporting young people to develop skills
DreamBig@WTW is a dynamic three-year journey designed to nurture the talents of young individuals facing socioeconomic challenges. This innovative international program supports young people from marginalized communities in the UK to develop business and life skills. Through focused mentorship, hands-on experience, and a spirit of giving back, WTW is committed to making a difference.
The program is specially crafted for youths aged 15-18, supporting them through crucial transition stages with skills-based training in WTW's key business segments: People, Risk, and Capital. It's all about unlocking potential in problem-solving, data analytics, and communication. The focus is squarely on mentorship, experience and giving back.
"In addition to nurturing future entrepreneurs and leaders, our goal is to strengthen community wellbeing and foster a diverse, local workforce," says WTW Co-Heads of DreamBig, Cheree Psalms and Dorothy Wilkes.
Committed to strengthening communities
Thanks to the dedicated mentors from Urban Synergy and WTW, participants will receive monthly guidance to build confidence and dream big. Additionally, paid summer internships are offered within WTW, along with mentorship to help reinvest their newfound skills back into their communities.
"In addition to helping empower future entrepreneurs and business leaders, we hope to develop strong communities as well. We are committed to strengthening our communities’ social, emotional, and economic wellbeing and, equally as important, to growing a qualified, diverse, and local workforce," said Cheree.
"There is no greater legacy than preparing those who come after us to achieve exponentially even greater things than we did. This program affords access into a financial area of business and society where minority and marginalized groups have historically been underrepresented and in some cases, excluded, and we are catalyzing that change," added Dorothy.
Connecting young people with mentors and career role models
Urban Synergy is a charity founded in 2007 that has helped more than 27,000 young people in the UK get into work and higher education through mentoring. Through mentors and career role models, Urban Synergy inspires, guides and ignites the ambitions of students and young people aged 9-24 years of age.
It connects them to outstanding mentors and industry-leading companies that will help them see how their skills fit into the workplace, gain confidence, and access opportunities, as they take their first steps to career success.
Developing future talent and business leaders
Urban Synergy CEO and Founder, Leila Thomas, and Urban Synergy Head of Programmes, Dianne Johnson, express their gratitude towards the program's impact on youth development and the joy of seeing dreams turn into reality.
"Top business people have mentors, so I’m delighted that this partnership with WTW and the DreamBig program means young people can too. Thank you to WTW and DreamBig for being the incredible catalyst in developing the talent of the future today," shared Leila.
"It’s an absolute pleasure and an honor to watch young people thriving and developing through the DreamBig program with WTW’s support. Thank you. My thanks also go to the young people and mentors who are turning career dreams into reality," said Dianne.
