With operations in more than 50 countries and a market share almost two and half times that of its nearest competitor, DHL Supply Chain is continuing to lead the way in creating joined-up logistics solutions.

On DHL Supply Chain's HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) contract, the company manages the picking, packing and distribution of basics goods to inmates within prisons.

Here, DHL Supply Chain Senior Team Leader, Wendy, discusses the unique and rewarding contract, and how her 16-year-long DHL career continues to have a purpose.

Career opportunities across of DHL's different business areas

Wendy explains that she began working with DHL thanks to a friend of hers.

"She said, 'have you thought about DHL?' and I hadn't. So I came along, got the job, started off being a Distributor, going out in the vehicles," explains Wendy. "I decided I'd like to be more warehouse based. An opportunity came up, and I came into the warehouse."

Communication and empathy are key qualities

Wendy's role as a Senior Team Leader for DHL Supply Chain is to run the workshop floor, and she shares that key qualities she needs to do her job are communication and empathy.

"You have to be able to communicate with people because, obviously, you have to move staff around sometimes. I have to be able to move prisoners around, to where I need them. You also have to have empathy, because the lads will come in the morning, and they might have had something that's upset them, a phone call," says Wendy. "We need to be able to treat everybody as though we're all wearing the same uniform."

DHL offers a career with purpose

For Wendy, she likes coming to work with DHL every day and values having this special feeling which is due to her purposeful role.

"I can get up. Come to work. I have a purpose. I can't imagine doing anything else and, in fact, I don't want to do anything else, I'll be very honest," shares Wendy. "The 16 years that I've worked for DHL have been an absolute blessing for me."
