Nicole Brown is an environmental engineer who works at AECOM. She works on water-related projects including water security and infrastructure improvement.
Here Nicole partipcates in an interview regarding her career experience in engineering. She discusses being an engineering student in the early 90' and her career transition from design to project management.
Being technical as well as people focused
Nicole started out having worked on a few community outreach projects in her neighbourhood during school years, where she realized she was given great opportunity.
Now a number of years later, Nicole enjoys being an environmental engineer and understands the importance that strong people interaction plays in engineering.
"I realised I can be technical, but still be people-focused," comments Nicole.
For Nicole, life as an engineer is more than putting your head down and learning about the technical aspects. It also requires important conversation with people.
"I like to talk to people and manage the clients, figuring out what the cost-effective solution is. I had trust from clients, and now my position it has turned into a business development role. At AECOM, I manage projects. I understand customers' vision, and how I can help them with their vision," she shares.
