Meet WTW's Director for Retirement, Liz Metcalfe, who works within the company's ever-growing Lisbon Regional Delivery Hub in Portugal.

Alongside her colleague, Diletta Cardinali Pietracci, Liz shares her thoughts about her WTW career journey and why WTW is truly a great place to work.

Enjoying a spirit of collaboration

When Liz joined WTW's Lisbon's hub a decade ago, she says that there were about 50 colleagues. Everybody knew everybody else. "We all knew each other's names, histories, everything," explains Liz.

Now, the WTW Lisbon hub is getting close to 250 colleagues.

"But something that hasn't changed is the fact that people are really approachable. You can always ask people for help. You'll always find somebody who's got some good advice for you. The spirit of the Lisbon Hub, which is collaboration, hasn't gone away. So the people that I work with are probably the thing that keeps me working at WTW," continues Liz.

Diletta refers to WTW's office in Lisbon as being 'beautiful' because it's full of colors, and there are so many facilities and beautiful places.

"The view and the position is very close to the city center. And it's also beautiful to actually come to the place, to the office," adds Diletta.

Enjoying an ever-changing WTW career

Over the course of her WTW career, Liz has experienced constant growth and opportunity.

"Your role starts in one place, but it doesn't necessarily stay in that place, and I'm exactly proof of that. The role that I do now has absolutely nothing to do with the role that I first came into when I joined the company. I've been through a series of small changes over the years because I showed more inclination to go a certain way or to take on more responsibility in a different area," says Liz.

Putting colleagues in a role where they'll shine

"Sometimes it's not possible to do those types of things immediately, and we have to be a little bit patient. I think that we always try to look for ways to put somebody into a role where they'll be able to shine and where they'll be able to do the stuff that they really enjoy doing. As you develop new skills over the years, and as you learn what type of work you'd like to do and what type of work that you're good at, you have the possibility of leaning your career more towards those possibilities. That's something that I definitely benefited a lot from," explains Liz.

"If you're looking for a role with a lot of variety, then WTW is the type of company that you would like. A role in WTW's Lisbon Hub could be something really interesting and exciting for you," adds Liz.
