AECOM is proud to be named Employer of the Year (Large Employer category) at the CIBSE Young Engineers Awards. The award recognizes organizations that proactively champion young people in the building services sector through professional development and supporting additional education.

A prestigious award

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is the leading professional body for building services engineers and all those associated with the sustainable and built environment. The CIBSE offers a wide range of services and technical assistance to members and is also a qualifying body whose members are recognised internationally for high standards of competence.

This prestigious annual awards scheme brings together the CIBSE Graduate of the Year award, which is now in its 23rd year and the CIBSE Employer of the Year award, now in its 11th year. These awards recognise and reward the innovative thinking, hard work and skills of graduate engineers, whilst also showcasing and championing employers - large and small - who are truly committed to developing and encouraging young talent.

AECOM supports young people

AECOM has supported many initiatives that encourage young people to work in the building services sector.

AECOM invited 50 children into its London campus for an Open House day to find out more about the amazing engineering that goes on behind the scenes of daily life. The children took part in fun, hands-on activities delivered by members of AECOM’s engineering teams throughout the day to help them learn about different specialisms of engineering and find out more about what a career in engineering would be like.

AECOM also provides two paid community days a year for all employees in the UK and Ireland. One of its employees, Natalie, supported the Institution of Civil Engineers’ (ICE) activity at two Big Bang Fairs, in London Central and London East. The Big Bang is a UK-wide programme to bring science and engineering to life for young people. Their flagship event, The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair, is held in Birmingham every year. They also have a programme of events called “The Big Bang Near Me” which bring science and engineering to regions across the UK to reach more young people.

Another AECOM employee, Sarah, is a proud Futureintech ambassador. Futureintech promotes careers in technology, engineering and science by bringing people working in STEM-based industries into schools to share career stories and run workshops. Futureintech helps raise the visibility of STEM in an effort to address the skills shortage, with a particular focus on increasing the number of women entering these fields.
