AECOM has signed the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge, organized by  Construction News, a voluntary code that sees companies demonstrate their determination to promote gender equality in the construction industry.

“There is no doubt that greater diversity leads to better outcomes, encouraging innovation and creativity. AECOM is committed to hiring, developing and retaining female talent and our new Equity, Diversity & Inclusion strategy further stretches our aspirations for gender representation and closing the gender pay gap," says Colin Wood, Chief Executive of AECOM Europe, UK & Ireland.

"By signing the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge, we want to take a stronger industry leadership role. This important initiative brings the sector together, helping organisations to share ideas and take collaborative action to increase the number of women in our industry,"

As well as a public statement of intent, the pledge offers a roadmap of goals towards greater equality.

As a signatory to the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge, AECOM agrees to:

  • Recognise the diverse perspectives and skills that women bring to the workforce
  • Ensure HR policies actively promote gender equality
  • Make unconscious-bias training mandatory for anyone in charge of selecting other people
  • Use inclusive language in recruitment adverts and job descriptions
  • Establish programmes for female employees to support career progression
  • Take steps to close their gender pay gap
