Outstanding professional driving growth
The insurance sector is packed with talent, and throughout the course of each year, Insurance Business (IB) shines the spotlight on many of them through a host of regional reports, naming everyone from the rising stars, to the elite women, to the top specialist brokers.
The formidable list of the biggest names in insurance was put together by Insurance Business, leveraging its unique position as a true global publication reaching six different markets: the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia-Pacific and the UK. The Insurance Business team collectively deals with hundreds, if not thousands, of insurance industry professionals throughout the year for its daily newsletters, special reports and surveys, industry awards and events. This range makes the Insurance Business team well-placed to tackle the intimidating task of whittling down the industry’s high achievers to just 100.
The Global 100 list features outstanding professionals from all of the Insurance Business markets who are making waves in the industry, whether by driving growth and innovation within their own company, taking associations to new heights, advancing the business through education, or championing the key issues that can lead the industry towards a new era.
Providing support for her team
As WTW Executive Director of Construction for Hong Kong and Macau, Iris provides her team members with regular support and resources to ensure they are happy, engaged, and productive - especially throughout the pandemic.
Like many professionals in her field, Iris faced daunting mental and physical challenges getting through the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated lockdowns. “I was not able to meet physically with colleagues, business partners, friends and even family,” explains Iris. “I re-focused myself to face it in a proactive way by frequently connecting with them. I communicated with others through scheduled and spontaneous video calls – either group or individual – to share ideas and offer help after I can see their facial expressions, listen to their concerns, and understand their emotions,” commented Iris.
Iris is also a member of the General Committee of The Hong Kong Confederation of Insurance Brokers, and is a Senior Associate of The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance. With over 20 years of experience, Iris has held various senior positions with major insurance brokers in Asia.
Iris has focused on seeking innovative and the best risk transfer solutions for infrastructure, superstructure, hospitality, power, and petrochemical projects. In the past decade, she has supported numerous construction projects in Hong Kong and Macau, demonstrating professionalism, innovation and service excellence to her clients.
Iris actively promotes knowledge exchange across industries by enhancing knowledge about insurance and speaking at different industry events. In 2020, Iris spoke at the annual conference of the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong, advising construction legal professionals on various insurance matters that might affect their overall risk transfer strategy. In 2021, Iris spoke to members of the Hong Kong Construction Association on COVID-19 and employer liability under the Employee Compensation Ordinance. In January 2022, Iris spoke at the Asian Financial Forum, contributing her views on innovating insurance to combat climate change.
Iris is passionate about talent attraction and retention in the insurance industry - hence she supports industry initiatives that attract young talent and enable young professionals to advance their insurance brokerage career.
“I believe that focus, positivity, helpfulness and respect are the key to success. I focus on each step to attain my goals and challenge the status quo. I remain positive when I fail and try again in a more efficient and pragmatic way, and I respect my teammates and always offer sincere help,” comments Iris.
