DHL Senior Shipping Coordinator Latifah Buang has a great career

Meet DHL Supply Chain Singapore's Senior Coordinator, Latifah Buang. Latifah’s role at DHL involves processing customer shipments. She treats her colleagues as her second family, and is a skilled material handling equipment (MHE) operator.

Here, Latifah shares what a day in her life looks like as a DHL Senior Shipping Coordinator.

Forging a successful career in logistics

Latifah explains that many people say logistics, and working in warehouses, is only for men. Well, she has a different take on that, and has proven that she can achieve what she sets her mind to within her DHL career.

Latifah ensures that customer shipments are processed in a timely and compliant manner. It is essential that all shipping requirements, especially those related to dangerous goods, are met.

"I work closely with our team to ensure that all necessary dangerous goods (DG) documents and packaging comply with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) requirements," explains Latifah.

Great opportunities to grow, upskill and learn

For Latifah, DHL provides her with many opportunities to learn and grow via training programs and further development initiatives.

"I always had an interest in upskilling and learning how to operate a forklift. I got to enroll in the forklift operator course when several sites needed additional support during COVID," reflects Latifah. "As a result, I am proud to be the only female Shipping Coordinator who can operate a forklift in DHL Supply Chain Singapore. And now, many of my colleagues are also interested in taking up the same course," says Latifah.

DHL employees care for each another

Working at DHL means that Latifah's employees are not just colleagues, but they're also family and have each other’s backs.

"When I say ‘family’, in my case, I do mean it literally. My husband has worked in the same compound as me for the past eight years," explains Latifah. "A family that eats together, stays together. I cook for my team every day and enjoy sharing my dishes with them."

Latifah shares that she really enjoys her career with DHL and has created many pleasant memories over the years. "Still after 26 years, I love coming to work every day. I get to learn new skills and work together with a great team," she says.
